Divine messengers have existed long before we had a name for them. The 4,000-year-old winged protective spirits of ancient Sumer. The fire-and-light messengers of ancient Persia. The winged guardians of Assyria, the Hebrews and the Greeks. While their forms and names differed across cultures, faiths and time periods, their purpose has remained the same: to protect and guide. Over time, these figures moved from written and spoken history into the landscape around us, from Mont-Saint-Michel in Normandy to Skellig Michael off Ireland’s southwest coast.

In Paris in 2018, while admiring Archangel Michael at the center of Fontaine Saint-Michel, a seed was planted. After that, we began to notice these winged messengers everywhere; carved into street corners, overlooking city squares and floating above church pews. That discovery was the starting point for Archangel Ireland, inspiring us to create candles that invite the presence of these angels into every home.

Our hope is to share the comfort, guidance and light of the archangels by honouring their history, significance and gifts. With each candle we pour, we’re doing our small part to keep their light alive, one home at a time.
